During 2023, the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) commissioned me to write a paper on policies to promote investment, as part of the work of the UK Productivity Commission . In the Autumn I reviewed all the existing submissions and came to an independent view which challenges the conventional wisdom on various issues – the paper is due to be published early in 2024, but as a preview I was asked to contribute a blog summarising the paper.
